Unless you grew up traveling in a recreational vehicle (RV) you probably have lots of questions you’d like answered before you embark in an RV rental vacation.
Q. How many people can a typical RV accommodate?
A. This varies by make and model, and the number of passengers accommodated safely depends on the number of seat belts available in the vehicle. Of course the number of beds will determine how many the RV sleeps. Often there are seatbelts enough for 9 passengers and beds enough for anywhere from 4 to 8.
Q. Will I need to get a special driver’s license to drive an RV rental?
A. No special license or permit is required, other than a driver’s license from your state of residency. There is, however, a minimum age requirement of 25 years in order to drive and/or rent an RV.
Q. What kind of insurance will I need?
A. Usually a free insurance binder for the dates of your RV rental can be arranged through the provider of your auto insurance policy. Otherwise, insurance is available for a modest daily rate with your rental agreement.
Q. How much fuel should I plan or budget for?
A. You can generally expect to get about 7 to 11 miles per gallon, since the vehicles are so heavy. By mapping your travel route you should be able to reach a fairly accurate estimate of your fueling needs.
Q. Can I bring the family pet?
A. Sorry, but at this time we do not permit pets in any of our rental vehicles.
